Guns vs Cars

For most males, the favourite toys are usually guns and/or cars. There will be the occasional dolls but even then its dolls with guns or dolls in convertible cars.

For me its the gun. I always loved my toy guns more than my toy cars. I even fashioned a gun out of lego once. Though that didn't last long coz I couldn't make it shoot something.

In Singapore, you won't privately own a gun unless you belong to a gun club or something, or you are an athlete. Even then, you have to store your weapon in some club storage place and not your home. If you do have a gun that can actually fire slugs in your home, its likely illegal.

Singaporean males are "fortunate" enough to handle such weapons at some point of their life. And actually shoot live rounds though not at a live target (still not sure if I will actually ever do that but sure like to try). Thanks to National Service, we all would eventually know if we actually like guns that no longer just emits loud irritating noise with blinking lights. We are talking about guns with loud bangs and recoils depending on calibre and type.

For me, its a love. Sure I haven't had the chance to try out a huge array of guns, but I have handled a revolver, automatic rifle, automatic pistol and a 10 gauge shotgun. Loved them all.

Recent deadly gun incidents in America have them revisit gun control issues, again. This time round with President Barack Obama fighting back tears, promising something meaningful will be done, soon.

In my opinion, as long as you allow gun ownership with minimal authorization, there will always be a problem with trigger-happys running around triggering happy.

Although I love guns and sometimes wish I can move to a place that allows guns in the name of "self-defence" and "sports", I am thankful I am in a place where its not and we are safer for it.

So I can't be a gun person. There are also a lot of other things I can't be. I won't be too bothered by it.
