3 recent and hot topics in singapore which seems unconnected but are they?
in the last few years, there had been a surge of foreigners in every area possible in singapore. schools, service sectors, construction sectors, cleaning sectors, singaporeans-won’t-do sectors, you name it and they are there by the truckloads. suddenly people fear for the safety of their properties and self. they say they are dangerous and raises crime rate in Singapore.
even more attention was on their ability to speak english. and I wonder why because most singaporeans can’t speak english anyway. what we have is called singlish which is a melayu-hokkien-mandarin-english hybrid. something our own SPGs, or potato-eaters or bananas won’t and refuse to understand either anyway.
still don’t believe that singaporeans can’t speak english? try googling miss singapore world 2009. yes google, not oogle at her “bigini” win at the pageant. and thank God there wasn’t a shot of her in lehperd preen and dark jins. or rad colour. or whatever that shouts her (which probably goes “can’t public speak”). but I’m sure she’ll be good in horsepitality.
not all beauty queens have it bad. there is one ex-queen who recently got the attention of the asian world. ms chu lay keng, wife of cantopop heavenly king andy lau, finally got the status and recognition she deserves. after more than 2 decades, andy lau came out in the open of the relationship even if he has not yet verbally or literally admitted to it. and so far no reports yet of mass hysteria among fans although there are at least 1 bitterness already. on the whole, the now-more-mature fans are either giving them the blessings, or chiding him for denying it for so long but blessing them anyway.
